Tourtel reprints

In 1999, the Followers published the first of a number of Tourtel reprints.

As with the Bestall reprints, these were laid out as they would have been in an annual but this time most of them were coloured by the Rupert colourist, Gina Hart, who also provided the covers' artwork for some of the issues.

Most of these booklets are laid out in the same format as the traditional Rupert Annual, which makes them a great addition to any Rupert collection.

Stories
Rupert in Dreamland
Information about the stories
First appearing in the Daily Express in 1923, "Rupert in Dreamland" had a limited pre-war reprint history and has not appeared since until this printing.

It is an interesting story in that it is a parody of Lewis Carroll´s "Alice in Wonderland" with Rupert experiencing similar adventures before waking up.

It reproduces the original Mary Tourtel pictures in black line as they appeared in the Daily Express.

Rupert at School (1922 and 1933)
Information about the stories
There were two different "Rupert at School" stories originally published in the Daily Express, one in 1922 and the other in 1933.

Both are reprinted here and are now in full colour for the first time with a special cover painted by Gina Hart, the Rupert Annual colourist, who also coloured the original black and white Mary Tourtel story pictures.

Although referred to as Tourtel Reprints no 2, this was actually the most recently published of this series of special issues.

Information about the stories
The "Rupert and the Twin´s Birthday Cake" story was printed in the Daily Express in 1934 and the original Tourtel pictures are coloured here for the first time.

This story has been redrawn and coloured to appear in a St Michael´s book in 1979 but the images are not the same quality as those which appear here. "Rupert´s New Neighbours" is from 1925 and has never been reprinted until now.

Gina Hart has delightfully coloured these pictures and has also provided the cover and title page images.
