Well the Sunday Express have certainly created a real Rupert conundrum , for starting in todays newspaper (May 4th, 2025) is a story re-titled "Rupert and the Missing Biscuits".
This story , written by Ian Robinson and illustrated by John Harrold originally appeared in the Daily Express as "Rupert and the Missing Cakes" on Tuesday Sept 24th 1996 and running to Monday Oct 28th 1996 for 30 episodes . It would be printed in full colour in the 1998 Annual , with the beautiful colourisation credited to Gina Hart.
The story centres on Mrs Bear baking some Butterfly Cakes (not biscuits) and involves rarely seen Aunt Emma and Cousin Joan , who were Mary Tourtel creations.
Following on from the Mail Train Story last month , we also get another glimpse of the lovely Nutwood Train Station . Running in the Fun to Learn with Rupert Comic during Sept 1996 was The Space Adventure in Issue 7, while in the Sunday Express Magazine, it was Rupert and Willie's Adventures. This was sadly the last ever Sunday Express Magazine Story.
The original showing of Rupert and the Missing Cakes (now Biscuits) began in the Daily Express on Tuesday Sept 24th 1996 for 30 Episodes
The Missing Cakes Story appeared in full colour in the 1998 Annual with some differing text to it's original showing in the Newspaper .
