Welcome to the Followers of Rupert

Since 1983 there has been a society, called The Followers of Rupert, for those who remember Rupert from their childhood with affection. The society is limited to classic Rupert, not the cartoon character more recently seen.

Follow Rupert!

The Society gets its name from the Rupert annuals. Each year at the end of the stories there is a page advertising Rupert in the Daily Express and on that page is the slogan "Follow Rupert in the (Daily) Express" and so we are The Followers!

We have hundreds of members who enjoy regular newsletters, calendars and other Rupert-related items produced specifically for the society.

Rupert's Centenary - 100 years old!

Rupert is 99 years old, but this year is his centenary.

Rupert first appeared on 8th November 1920, so this year he will be 100!

We expect there will be plenty of interest in Rupert this year and we have created a page so that we can add information as we hear of Special Events / Publications and such like.

Rupert's Virtual 2020 Annual Party

The Followers' AGM is held in Warwick in August, surrounded by a Fun Day.  Regrettably, due to the Corona virus pandemic, the 2020 Event has had be postponed - but will take place in 2021, and Rupert will still be 100 at the time!

However ... one of our Members arranged a virtual Rupert Day for Saturday, 29th August (the day our Event should have taken place), on the Followers' Facebook page.  This involved showing video footage throughout the day of some super past Rupert Fun Days, and many of the talks and presentations from those events.

Some of our Members are not on Facebook, so we have arranged a direct link to all the videos on the Members' Home Page, so those Followers don't miss out.

So, if you are not already a Follower, join now.  You will then also be able to join the chat and fun of the Followers' Facebook Group

At the 2019 Fun Day, Followers had the chance to meet the current Rupert Artist, Stuart Trotter, and one lucky member won an original piece of artwork by Stuart, especially created for the event. Lots of information about the Event and lots of photos are available on the private Members' side of the website.
Follow this link and see that lovely piece and see some information about an earlier gathering of Followers:

The Latest Rupert Annual

Stuart Trotter, the current Rupert Artist, always attends the Followers' Fun Day, meets members and signs copies of the latest Rupert Annual personally for them. Join the Followers so that you can come and join the fun!

The Group is sad that the 2020 Event had to be cancelled because of the Corona virus, but Stuart is still happy to sign Annuals. Many members have ordered them. and they will be posted out in September.

Although the Followers' Sales are mainly unique items that can be sold only to members, the signed annual is one item the Society is able to offer for sale to members of the Public

If you would like to order a signed copy of the 2020 annual, download the order form here: SignedAnnual.2020

Prices quoted on the order form include postage and packing. Of course, if you join, you may come to the next Annual Meeting, meet Stuart, and have him sign a copy of the next annual personally for you.

No, Rupert is NOT a cartoon character

Follow this link to an interesting study showing that Rupert formed part of an innovative literary genre. This paper was written by author Ewen Mackenzie-Bowie. Download article here... (7.2 Mb)
