Welcome to the Followers of Rupert

Since 1983 there has been a society, called The Followers of Rupert, for those who remember Rupert from their childhood with affection. The society is limited to classic Rupert, not the cartoon character more recently seen.

Follow Rupert!

The Society gets its name from the Rupert annuals. Each year at the end of the stories there is a page advertising Rupert in the Daily Express and on that page is the slogan "Follow Rupert in the (Daily) Express" and so we are The Followers!

We have hundreds of members who enjoy regular newsletters, calendars and other Rupert-related items produced specifically for the society.

Rupert first appeared on the 8th November 1920, so he is now over 100 years of age!

This beautiful piece of artwork was created by Rupert Annual artist Stuart Trotter to celebrate Rupert's Centenary, and shows the changes Rupert has undergone in 100 years.

In 2023 the Followers celebrated our 40th birthday

Rupert may be over 100 but in 2023, the Followers celebrated an anniversary ourselves - we are 40 years old.

If you are not already a member,  you missed an amazing 40th Anniversary Party at our Annual Fun Day in September.

Join the Followers, and join in the fun next year.

Special Followers' productions:

Followers frequently produce special publications that are available only to members of the Society.

The Bestall Book

A quality hard-backed book in the format of a Rupert Annual. It contains four stories that had never previously appeared in colour: they have been specially coloured for the Followers.

It has a limited print run and is available only for members of the Followers to buy.

The Rupert Storybook

In the same (Rupert Annual) style as The Bestall Book, this beautiful 2024 Followers' publication contains five Rupert stories - three appearing in colour for the first time, one brand new Rupert story that has never appeared anywhere else, and a Rupert Centenary short story, plus other features.

The stories have been stunningly coloured and, like the Bestall Book, this book is available only to members of the Followers of Rupert and with a limited print run.

Join today: Followers' books are fabulous - and limited edition.

A Map of Nutwood

As all Rupert fans know, the little bear lives in Nutwood with his Mummy and Daddy.
There has always been much mystery about Nutwood and its surrounding area:

  • Where is the Professor's Tower?
  • Where does the Conjuror's pagoda lie?
  • Is the School across the Common?

The definitive Nutwood Map has now been created by the Nutwood Ordnance Survey Company - and it is available for members of the Followers to purchase!

The Rupert Index

This amazing Index details all the Rupert stories and where they appeared - in the newspaper and elsewhere -
from his very first appearance in November 1920 up to his Centenary in 2020.

Profusely illustrated in colour, with previously unseen colour artwork and many new interesting facts.

Join the Followers and you will be able to buy any or all of these super publications.
